Star Wars : X-Wing Alliance sees you cast in the role of Ace Azzameen whose family runs a trading post. You begin the game as a rookie pilot and through the course of the fifty missions you become highly skilled until eventually you pilot the Millenium Falcon in the battle against the Death Star. The missions are all generally of a high quality. The first couple of missions do seem rather flat compared to the later ones but this is probably because the game starts you off with a few gentle tasks before the difficult ones come along.

The game has good text feedback. You get the usual rolling text prologue at the beginning (like the films) but what is strange is that the introductory cutscene has no subtitles. This doesn't really damage the game but it would have been nice to have had the subtitles. The graphics are very good and the game does take advantage of a 3D accelerator card. The one point I would make is that the system requirements are a little optimistic and I would recommend at least a P2 233MHz processor and 64MB RAM.

Again this game is excellent value at only £14.99 and it take ages to complete all the missions. When you do there is a skirmish mode that can be played as a multiplayer or single player game. In the skirmish mode you have a choice of over 30 spacecraft to fly. You can play in a team or fly solo and the AI difficulty has plenty of variation so anyone from novices to experts can enjoy the battle at their own pace. This is another game that is a must for Star Wars fans everywhere.

Recommendation: Highly Recommended. A great single player game with well thought out missions.
Suitability for deaf gamers: Suitable.
The intro could have been subtitled though.
