One
of the biggest disappointments in the game industry in 1999 was
Theme Park World. The so-called follow up to the legendary Theme
Park, was bugged to the hilt and in all honesty there wasn't much
to get excited about when it was working properly. Hopes had been
high for the game particularly as Bullfrog had developed the almost
perfect Theme Hospital only 2 years earlier.
Ignoring
the negative aspects though the game allowed you to walk around
your own park and even ride your own rollercoasters! The contained
four parks, Lost kingdom, Wonder Land, Space Zone and Halloween
World. Of these four parks only the Lost Kingdom (Jurassic Park
themed) and Halloween World were available to initially play on.
The idea was that you were awarded golden tickets and eventually
golden keys that would enable you to unlock the other two theme
parks. The problem is that the game has no real substance and after
only a few hours play there is nothing to make you want to come
back to it.
There
aren't too many problems for deaf gamers with Theme Park World.
The biggest omission is that there is no subtitles for the cutscenes
and for the advisor who guides you through the game. The advisor
provides a lot of basic advice and is helpful for learning the game.
All of your park information is in text though and some tutorial
advice also appears on the screen in text.
Recommendation:
Not Recommended. It was Bullfrog's lowest moment.
Suitability for deaf gamers: It's generally OK but it would
have been good if the advisor had been subtitled.
Overall
Game Rating: 1.5/5
