Fast arcade action is seldom seen on the PC. Sonic 3D attempts to give us a slice of that console gameplay that owners of Sega consoles have become accustomed to.

The gameplay is just like the console versions of Sonic. You have to collect rings in order to protect yourself (you can't be killed whilst you have some rings) and you also have to rescue the Flickies (little birds) from the evil robots. You progress to the next level once you have rescued the birds. To give further protection to Sonic you can obtain shields from jumping on TV shaped objects.

Although the game has seven different zones the gameplay remains identical throughout and gets very repetitive. The graphics are primitive and the isometric view is a little awkward. Having said this though as long as your PC is a Pentium 166 or above (a bit jerky if your PC is a lower spec) you will find that Sonic 3D is a faithful translation and feels pretty much the same as it does on a Sega console.

The are no problems here for the deaf gamer and if you like Sonic in any way, shape or form then you will be very pleased with Sonic 3D, especially at only £4.99.

Recommendation: Recommended. Provided you liked past Sonic games.
Suitability for deaf gamers:
Suitable. No subtitles needed.
