2 Published by Sold Out Developed by Black Isle Studios Platform: PC CD-ROM Released - Out Now Price: £4.99 Fallout 2 has one of the best introductions to a game that I have ever seen. It's dramatic, compelling and very witty, a perfect start to a brilliant journey. It summarises the original Fallout and how, in a post apocalyptic world the Vault dweller came to found your village but now your village is dying and the only way to save it is by using the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK). You play as one of his descendants and it is your quest to find the GECK before it's too late. After watching the cutscenes, you can either accept one of three pre-created characters or be gobsmacked by the choices you can make when creating a character from scratch. The choices you make here really does affect your gameplay experience and therefore adds greatly to the replay value of the game. Fallout 2 uses a turn based combat system, which still plays great. Your characters' statistics will dictate who moves first, highlighting the brilliance of Black Isles' character creation system. With an isometric perspective, you won't find any annoying camera angles that plague 3D games these days. You will have to turn the subtitles on, as they are not on by default and then watch the introduction again with very clear contrasting text. In the same options menu, you'll be able to tailor Fallout 2 to your hearts content, e.g., text speed control, language and violence filters. Why every game doesn't have such options is difficult to understand. Well done, Black Isle. Recommendation:
Highly Recommended. This is a must buy title for anyone's collection. |
