Perhaps the goriest game on the PC is now available at an unbelievably low price. Severance Blade of Darkness is a third person hack 'n' slash RPG/Action game that shocked the gaming world with its ability to sever the limbs of your enemies. In fairness to the game all the gore can be turned off and then it appears no more gruesome than a game of Tomb Raider.

Combat is a major part of this game and the way in which it is carried out in the game is especially pleasing. Using the WASD keys and the mouse, it is possible to pull off a range of superb combo moves; the like of which has never graced the PC before. You can also lock on to your targets so as to avoid spinning around and losing control whilst mid-battle. The game also boasts some fantastic graphics with realistic shadows, superb textures and beautiful lighting effects. To have all the graphical settings on high will require you to have the finest graphical hardware that money can buy.

The game also claims to have a realistic damage model. Whack a wooden barrel and broken sections of wood will fly into the air. I don't know if it is realistically accurate but it certainly looks impressive. Replayability within the game is high. You can choose one of four characters to play through over twenty levels. The characters range from an Amazon to a Dwarf and they all have their preferred weapons.

Everything in the game is subtitled and all the objects that you can pick up as well as the objects you have to interact with, are all highlighted with the use of text. The game does not contain any vocal information that is not subtitled. All in all Severance Blade of Darkness is one fine hack 'n' slash experience that should not be missed if you are at all interested in third person action games.

Recommendation: Perfect. The combat system alone is worth the asking price.
Suitability for deaf gamers: Excellent subtitling make this game perfect for deaf gamers.

Overall Game Rating: 4/5
