One
of the most famous racing game series is the Need For Speed
collection. Every title seems to take the series in a new
direction. Not all have been classics though and I found
NFS II and Porshce 2000 to be the best titles in the series.
Here we have NFS Road Challenge which includes 18 cars to
drive and a variety of modes in which to race them.
The
core of the game is the career mode in which you have to
earn cash and upgrade your existing car or even buy new
models as they become available. There is a hot pursuit
mode if you fancy one of those hectic cop car chases. There's
also tournaments and high stakes races where the winner
gets the losers car. As a game it's not as good as most
modern racing titles and Porsche 2000 certainly beats it
in every department but it's by no means a bad game.
Graphically
it looks basic with the chrome effects seriously being overdone.
I couldn't run the game in 3D mode at all and was confined
to using the software mode which looked hideous. Whether
this was a problem with a having a modern graphics card
or simply the current Nvidia drivers I honestly don't know.
Recommendation:
No real complaints with NFS Road Challenge but if you really
want a great NFS experience get hold of Porsche 2000 which
looks a mile better and beats Road Challenge in every department.
Suitability for deaf gamers: No real problems.
Overall
Game Rating: 2.5/5
