Hostile Waters

It's rather sad that Rage Software are no more because over the last few years they have turned out some really good, but sadly underrated games. Hostile Waters is one of those games and while it's technically a RTS after only a short play you can see that it's actually a lot more innovative than you could possibly have imagined.

The game is set in 2032 supposedly twenty years later than the end of the Great Wars. It seemed like humanity had finally found peace but a dark cabal now prepares to reopen hostilities. There are over 20 missions in total which are a mix of stealth, outright destruction and tactical encounters. Graphically the game looks dated and the textures of the terrain and units look bland in comparison to today's software. In terms of gameplay though it really hits the spot and most gamers should enjoy Hostile Waters.

Unfortunately the cutscenes and introduction are not subtitled. Any verbal information you receive in the game also isn't subtitled. You do receive tutorial advice in text and the mission briefings are given in text. In all honesty though it's not the same experience for deaf gamers and that is a shame.

Recommendation: It's a really good game but sadly the failure to fully cater for deaf gamers means it can't be fully recommended.

Suitability for deaf gamers: Cutscenes and the introduction aren't subtitled and verbal messages received during the missions are also not subtitled.

Overall Game Rating: 2.5/5
