Out Software have had their fair share of flight simulations
over the years. Most of these have actually been very good
but alas Eurofighter Typhoon is not one of the good ones.
Rather than go for an all out simulation, Rage and Digital
Image Design decided to go for the arcade experience and
a rather poor one at that.
The
game is set in the early 21st century, 2015 to be precise
and sees you in charge of six pilots. The Russians have
invaded Iceland, the country not the frozen food superstore,
and it's your job to push them out of there. Each successful
mission regains a territory whilst a defeat loses a territory.
You have to hang about in the mess hall until a random mission
generates itself. This means you'll spend a lot of time
doing nothing, which is silly. The actual flying experience
is quite poor and will be instantly disliked by those wanting
a realistic experience. There are no skirmish missions available
and the multiplayer game needs every gamer to own a copy
of the game.
The
game isn't that deaf gamer friendly. The introduction isn't
subtitled and the news clips that accompany war events aren't
fully subtitled. Mission briefings and general help messages
are exclusively in text so the game is not impossible for
a deaf gamer. If you're looking for a good combat flight
game though look elsewhere as this simply isn't worth it.
Recommendation:
Eurofighter Typhoon is not one of the late Rage's better
titles and I would go as far to say it's not even worth
£4.99.
Suitability for deaf gamers: Sections of
the game are unsubtitled.

Game Rating: 2.0/5
