Roller Coaster Tycoon Published
by Infogrames Roller Coaster Tycoon is a timeless classic. Designed by the genius who brought us Transport Tycoon, it not only took on Theme Park, RCT wiped the floor with it. Such was the popularity of the game that it spawned two expansion packs. As a sequel is well underway for this masterpiece, Infogrames have decided to re-release the game onto their BEST OF range and give those who missed out on the game originally a golden opportunity to pick it up for the measly sum of £9.99. Although the main focus of the game is building fun and entertaining roller coasters, it is not the be all and end all of it. Chris Sawyer saw fit to throw in a whole theme park simulator that lets you not only build roller coasters, place rides, provide snacks and entertainers but you can also landscape your park and even design the walkways and choose the ornamental statues that you want. Investing in research allow different styles, themes and rides that will increase the appeal of your theme park. If you want to you can also invest in advertising, either on radio or TV in an effort to boost your attendance. There are 21 missions in all, some of which are very challenging. The appeal of the game is the fact that there are a multitude of ways to achieve your goals. The game encourages you to experiment, especially with the roller coaster design and it is just as fun when you get it wrong, and you see the roller coaster crash, as when you get it right. The game is perfect for deaf gamers. All information is given in text. The text is clear and easy to read. The text is static, so that you can read it in your own time and comes in click off dialogue boxes. The only noises that you'll miss out on are the music coming from the rides and the cries of delight, and squeals of horror, from the guests. The sounds are easily turned off though and take away very little from the game. Roller Coaster Tycoon is a strategy masterpiece. It is challenging and addictive but above all it is fun. It has stood the test of time and in terms of sheer enjoyment it is still an example of what a game should be. Recommendation:
Highly Recommended. One of the best games of all time. Overall
