The MiG-21 is a truly legendary aircraft. It was the Soviet Union's first Mach 2 aircraft, supremely accurate in the Vietnam War and established itself as a key element in most air forces around the world. Thanks to Captain Sim we now have what has to be an almost perfect representation of the MiG-21 for either FS2002 or CFS 2.

Whilst the general quality of the aircraft models in the Just Flight expansions is always of a high standard, the quality on show in MiG -21 Interceptor is jaw-droppingly impressive. Every element from the liveries to the virtual cockpit looks fantastic and rather unusually all the extra detail doesn't whack the framerate in the same way that other detailed expansions do. It's rather obvious that Captain Sim have highly optimised the aircraft models so as not to send the system requirements soaring. A lot of care has been taken with attention to detail and all flaps and rudders animate very nicely. You can even enable the gun sight and it works wonderfully well.

Installation
The installation couldn't be simpler. From the autorun menu you have a choice of selecting whether to install the expansion pack into either Flight Simulator 2002 or Combat Flight Simulator 2. The usual, unsubtitled Just Flight promotional clip runs before installation takes place but you can press the Esc key to quit this and get on with the installation.

Documentation
The expansion has a manual in html format and an online tutorial. Thankfully the manual that's included in the pack is very helpful and not only every aspect of the cockpit panel but also includes some rather helpful hints and tips to help you out.

MiG-21 Interceptor is an absolutely outstanding expansion pack and has to be one of the best ever made for either FS2002 or CFS 2. If you have CFS 2 you're going to get more out of the expansion pack as there are 20 missions for you to take part in. These missions range from tutorials to recon missions and finally to refinery and airfield strikes. We don't have a copy of CFS 2 so we can't comment on the quality of the missions but even without them this is still a highly impressive expansion pack. Perhaps the best news of all is that it is almost certain that full compatibility with the upcoming Flight Simulator 2004 has been achieved.

It looks beautiful and flys like a dream. This is absolutely top notch work from Captain Sim and Just Flight. You'll need CFS 2 to get the most out of the pack though.
