Combat Mission 2 Preview

CDV made a lot of people happy when they decided to release Combat Mission. Previously the game had only been available to purchase over the Internet and if you didn't own a credit card of some sorts then you weren't going to be able to purchase it. Combat Mission 2 is almost with us and from the short time we've to look at the preview it's looking very impressive indeed.

The key features of Combat Mission 2 are as follows:

- Battle on the Eastern Front from Operation Barbarossa 1941 until VE Day 1945, from the Black Sea to the Arctic Circle;
- Hi-res 3D graphics and dynamic stereo sound effects;
- Unique Turn / Real time hybrid system - allows for detailed planning and exciting action;
- Internet / LAN / PBEM head to head play;
- 6 or more nations
- 300+ different vehicles;
- 600+ other units;
- 50 scenarios and operations;
- Quick Battle maker for unlimited computer made scenarios;
- Editor to create your own battles and operations;
- Unparalleled realism and attention to detail;
- Weather effects, air strikes and night combat.

Visually the game is looking smarter than the original game, in terms of graphics and interface. The unique turn-based/real-time mix of gameplay is retained. From our brief time with the game it is obvious that the depth in Combat Mission 2 is far superior to that of the first game. Hundreds of different units all accurately modelled on the real life counterparts make this game something worth waiting for.

The game is out in October and it looks as if it's going to be the benchmark in wargaming for the W.W.II period. Like the first game, all details are given in text so the deaf gamer will miss nothing. Check back soon for the full review.
