Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit

The Need For Speed games have always been immensely popular and the third in the series was to prove to be no exception. This time around a Hot Pursuit mode was added. This was a one on one race but instead of it being a simple race the Police got involved and chased you. If you were caught you were ticketed. Collect three tickets and automatically lose. At the time it was a novel idea but since the games release it’s been copied countless times. In addition to the Hot Pursuit mode there are single races, knockout races and tournaments to be enjoyed.

For a game that’s 4 years old it doesn't look too bad at all. The cars that are available range from a 98 Corvette to the Italdesign Scighera. The cars look OK but the shiny textures have been seriously over done. The cars look they have been laminated by 4” thick Perspex. On anything resembling a modern computer this is going to fly and unlike a lot of today's racing games it controls well with a gamepad.

The game isn't subtitled but there is little speech here anyway. You'll be oblivious to the radio conversations the police are having and I suppose it does take away from some of the tension but it doesn't affect the game in anyway.

Recommendation: It's not the greatest NFS title (that honour goes to Porsche 2000/Unleashed) but despite it's age it's still great fun and still handles well. The game has a nice variety of race modes too.

Suitability for deaf gamers: No subtitles but the game doesn't really need them.

Overall Game Rating: 3.5/5
