We have
already mentioned on Deaf Gamers that beat 'em ups are rare on a PC. The only
alternative to Virtua Fighter is Mortal Kombat 4. Now while Virtua Fighter was
a sanitized beat 'em up with no gore the same cannot be said about MK4. The
Blood flows by the lorry load. Almost every hit spews blood and it's clear to
see why the earlier games caused so much controversy in the US.
Gore aside the game is quite a competent beat 'em up. The action is very fast
and furious and unusually includes weapons which make the gameplay more interesting.
The graphics are OK on a non-3dfx card and even better if you do have the said
card. One omission that should have been included is the ability to change the
screen resolution. This would have made the game look much nicer. The game comes
with plenty of variety and the modes include: Arcade, Team, Endurance, Tournament
and Practice. The opponents are numerous as are the difficulty levels and you
really looking at a game here that will hold your attention for ages providing
you don't mind the gore.
Deaf gamers need not worry about the suitability of MK4. The only verbal comments
in the game are the taunts that the fighters throw at each other and these are
pretty pointless and nothing to do with the gameplay.
