One of the most memorable games of 2000 was Deus Ex. The game was a combination of RPG and FPS and what a mixture it was. Taking the role of J.C. Denton, a nano augmented special covert operative for UNATCO, your initial job is to remove the NSF terrorist organisation from the Liberty Island statue but the game includes many, many missions. It's fair to say that there is plenty of play time to be had here.

What makes Deus Ex a special game is that you can tailor it in so many ways. JC can install a variety of upgrades which will enhance the chosen attributes. Choices within the game will alter the way the game plays too. The game begins with a clear definition of who the good guys are but as you progress that definition becomes a little blurry. The plot is full of twists and turns and it makes for a great gameplay experience.

The game is fully subtitled but sounds from alarms etc., are not shown visually which becomes tricky at certain points. Thankfully you can save anywhere so a cautious approach will help avoid the frustrations. Conversations and objectives can be recalled, in text, at any time which is a nice touch. It's also worth noting that this is the game of the year addition that comes complete with the multiplayer component. It's great value for the small sum of £4.99
