With the release of Commandos 3 getting ever nearer those of you who haven't experienced the series ought to give this title a go. Beyond The Call of Duty was a standalone expansion pack for the first Commandos game and whilst it didn't really do anything that different, it still offered a host of challenging scenarios and two new characters, a female member of the Dutch Resistance and a Major from the Yugoslav Partisan forces.

The concept behind Commandos is a simple one. You have a small team who have to carry out special operations. The secret with the game is to be stealthy and not to alert the ubiquitous guards as if you do it's usually mission over. One of the main problems with the original Commandos and Beyond The Call of Duty is that there is no visual depiction of the noise your characters create. Star Trek Away Team and Commandos 2 displayed the noise so that you could see if your movements would alert the guards attention. Still Commandos was the game that started it all and in all fairness there was not much wrong with it.

Unfortunately the game is not subtitled and the tutorials are useless as a result of this. Mission briefings are in text and you can access mission objectives whilst in a mission. It wouldn't be right to say it isn't awkward for deaf gamers but nevertheless the Commandos games are all very good and certainly worth £4.99.

Recommendation: This stand alone expansion pack to the first Commandos offered only a few extras but it was still a very good game.

Suitability for deaf gamers: It's a shame that the game isn't subtitled and it is a little awkward for deaf gamers but the determined will enjoy the game.

Overall Game Rating: 3.5/5
