The original Colin McRae game was almost perfect. With masses of replayability, excellent handling and great graphics it became an instant hit on both the PC and the PSone. The sequel manages to make the original look poor. The graphics of both the cars and the terrain look superb (the game is still the finest driving game on the PC a year after its release). The game offers rally circuits in Finland, Greece, France, Sweden, Australia, Italy and the UK. Each country offers a unique experience whether it's the dusty roads of Kenya or the knee deep snow of Sweden.

A few extra features have been added in this sequel. There is now a challenge mode that puts you in a competition with a handful of other drivers. You face off one vs. one on special courses with the winner progressing to the next round. These levels are great fun and provide a change of pace from the standard rally mode. Without a doubt the finest inclusion in the game is the arcade mode. In rally mode you usually race in isolation with your times being compared to competitors that have already gone before you. In arcade mode you are on the track (again these are special arcade circuits) with other cars.

As with the first game this sequel is perfect for deaf gamers. Your co-driver gives verbal directions but these are also shown through directional arrows. The only vocal information where there is no text is a small comment that is given when you begin a rally and this is only a few words expressing the nature of the course. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 offers outstanding value at £4.99 and it still remains one of the finest driving simulations the PC has to offer.

Recommendation: Perfect. It takes PC racing to the next level.
