The famous blue hedgehog has long been a firm favourite amongst gamers. The SEGA mascot finds himself on all platforms these days and here we have a remake of the Sonic Adventure Dreamcast game on the PC. As you might expect the Sonic formula is the same as ever and just as addictive as ever but unfortunately the transition to the PC has not been an ideal one and the game still has the same problems as the other 3D Sonic games.

The game features six playable characters including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and the evil Chaos. There's a mission mode featuring 60 bonus games. The ever popular Chao mini-games have also been included. There are also 12 Game Gear games to be unlocked. In terms of features the game is impressive but sadly the game isn't as polished as it should have been.

Whilst there are subtitles for the main dialogue, there is speech that is not subtitled. Thankfully the omissions never spoil the game but it would have been nice for at least all the main characters remarks to have been shown in text. Graphically the game is disappointing and it's here where the whole thing falls down a little. The frame rate doesn't feel as smooth as on the GameCube version and you'll notice that the game has its fair share of glitches. To be honest the game looks like it's running through an emulator at times and it all smacks of a sloppy port. Whilst the game will allow you to play with the keyboard and mouse it's a control scheme that doesn't work well so a gamepad is definitely a must. Sonic fans will like it but get it on the GameCube if at all possible.

Overall Game Rating: 2.5/5

Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut is actually quite a good game but it's not been bought to the PC in a way that does the game justice. There's too many graphical glitches and the frame rate isn't what it should be (even on an ATi X800XT).
