The original Prince of Persia games were classics and when Prince of Persia 3D was announced many were excited at the return of the series. Unfortunately the game was a disaster and had none of the charm of its 2D prequels. Many thought the series was dead but then Ubisoft released Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Not only did it give fans of the series the first great 3D title in the series but it was also, arguably the best game in the series to date.

Everything about The Sands of Time is first class. Graphically it's outstanding and several years on it still looks superb. Best of all it runs well on less than stellar graphics cards. In terms of how it plays, the game is top notch with great fight scenes and great platform elements galore. The game doesn't need a joystick or gamepad and makes a very good use of the keyboard and mouse combination to perform all the jumps and attacks.

The only disappointment with The Sands of Time is that it's not as deaf gamer friendly as it should be. As we said in our full review of the game (that can be found here):

For all its superb game play and graphical splendour, it's disappointing to see that the game has no subtitles. Only tutorial messages are shown in text and these will help you learn the controls and techniques that are available to you. None of the cutscenes are subtitled though and to make it slightly worse the game is narrated by the Prince in a style that makes it seem as if the events have already occurred, so when you are killed he'll say it didn't happen that way etc. Of course you can still play the game and enjoy it without the story but it takes away from the overall package, which is a shame.

Still this is an excellent game that represents outrageous value at £9.99.

Probably the best Prince of Persia game to date. Having no subtitles is a major disappointment though.
