When
the batch of Sold Out titles arrived for review I have to
confess I had never heard of Mutant Storm. Whilst I never
minded a good arcade blaster it's not that often that I
get to play one, for one reason or another. If you're the
kind of gamer who yearns for the classic arcade experience
you would be wise to pick up a copy of Mutant Storm because
from whichever direction you look at the game, it's impressive.
The
game offers pure, classic arcade thrills with you revolving
your spacecraft and attempting to take out the enemies before
they do likewise to you. The game is fiendishly addictive
and it will require great skill to complete all of the games
89 levels that are on offer. As you might expect from such
a game there are power-ups aplenty and a variety of increasingly
difficult enemies to challenge you. It's a testament to
the quality of the game that you'll keep coming back again
and again because although it gets difficult it's very addictive.
Best of all though is that the game controls superbly with
the keyboard and mouse (although dual-stick joypads are
supported if you so desire) and you can even play two-player
games.
As
this is purely an arcade blaster there isn't any speech
and as a result the game is fine for deaf gamers. Graphically
the game looks good (relatively speaking of course) and
remains ultra smooth, during hectic levels, on even low
specifications PC's. The game features online hi-score tables
so you can see how you fair against the best the online
gaming world has to offer. In fact from top to bottom this
is a class act and it's our pick of this latest batch of
games from Sold Out Software.
